Episode 5: Braising

Only braising can get you through the winter alive. But what to braise? Matthew says meat. Molly says vegetables. If this strikes you as stereotypical, however, check out Matthew’s gender-bending headgear.

I’m so glad you guys did a show on braising! I love braising, because it’s hard to botch, so it is my go-to cooking method when I’m in the mood to “improvise” (i.e. clean out the cupboards). Example: a few nights ago, I noticed a funky smell coming from the pantry – after throwing out one slimy golden beet, I cut up the surviving beets, plus a soft, neglected apple, a sprouting sweet potato (sprouts removed), and some onion and arranged it around a pork loin with some apple juice, white wine, dried sage and a little (don’t judge me) pumpkin pie spice. Braised up fabulously.

Keep up the good work, this podcast is delightful! Sometimes you recommend cookbooks, it would be great if you instituted a “featured cookbook” or foodie book for each show. I actually had not heard of the Molly Stevens book, and it is now queued up next on my Amazon splurge list.

    Thanks,
    -Anna

I absolutely love this show and I’m 52 years old. So I guess you guys have a wide appeal. Molly, I am addicted to your oatmeal pancakes. Ever since I found the recipe I’ve had them every day for lunch. Yum! Keep up the great work.

So I just noticed that my iTunes is telling me that Spilled Milk is not a valid podcast URL? This is a tragedy of the highest order! I live in a dorm, I’m never at my parents’, and my boyfriend’s kitchen kind of sucks, so I use your podcast to cook vicariously. Come back!

Hey, Eleanor, we haven’t gone anywhere. I just tried it in my iTunes and it worked fine; try deleting Spilled Milk from your list of podcasts and resubscribing from the iTunes store. Hopefully that will fix it!
