    This podcast gave me serious disgust chills, but man! Hilarious! And I like bananas at the ends of the ripeness spectrum; I like to eat a banana as-is when it’s yellow with some tinge of green (I like them starchy and firm), and I like to use nearly-rotted bananas in quick breads, muffins, pancakes, smoothies…Yum-nana.

    Loved this episode. I had a roommate once who kept bananas in the freezer . . . and not in a plastic bag. This practice eventually left the floor of our freezer with a thick layer of brown banana sludge that, let me tell you, was NOT fun to remove when we defrosted the fridge!

    *shiver*

    For the record, neither of my children would ever eat bananas, still won’t, but do like banana bread. And I will take mine green, please.

    Matthew – you mentioned the stringy black stuff in banana bread. I actually did a biology experiment on banana DNA a long long time ago in high school. If I remember correctly, the black stuff is actually banana DNA.

      Megan, my favorite part of this is: “Preserved Fish was born in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, the son of a blacksmith who was also named Preserved Fish. The blacksmith’s father was Preserved Fish as well, but that Fish’s father was named Thomas.”

    I also had a roommate who would freeze bananas sans plastic bag and thaw them in the fridge sans plate. And since my designated shelf was below hers I always had banana goo all over my produce. yeah.
    because of this I freeze my bananas already peeled and in a plastic bag so once they are thawed I dump out the bag into the mixer.
